If you are looking for a tasty treat that is both easy to make and delicious, then this Dutch Oven Style Lasagna dish is for you. Served with sliced bread and a salad, you have a main meal that should please everyone.
1 1/2 lb. lean ground beef
1 large jar of your favorite spaghetti sauce
9 oz shredded mozzarella
2 1/4 cup ricotta cheese
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
13 lasagna noodles
1 1/2 tsp. Italian seasoning
sprinkle garlic salt
3/4 c hot water
How To Make
Begin by preheating your camping Dutch oven in the coals of your campfire. While that is warming up, brown the ground beef in another skillet and water in a small sauce pan either over the fire or on your camp stove
Once the beef is browned, drain off the excess fat and put the beef into a large mixing bowl. Stir in the spaghetti sauce and mix well. In another mixing bowl, combine the three cheeses (hold back a few ounces of the mozzarella for a topping later), eggs, herbs and garlic salt. Mix all of those ingredients well.
Break up 4 of the lasagna noodles and carefully place them on the bottom of the Dutch oven. Remember it will be hot so use a hot pad or oven mitt to hold it steady.
Put about 1/3 of the meat mix over the top of the bottom layer of noodles. Over that put a layer of about 1/2 of the cheese mix. Break up 5 more noodles to begin the middle layer. Follow that with 1/2 of the remaining meat mixture and the rest of the cheese mix. Break up the last of the noodles for a top layer, spread the remaining meat mix and the reserved bit of mozzarella cheese on top.
Pour the 3/4 cup of hot water around the edges of the noodles. Put the lid on the Dutch oven and bake the whole thing for about an hour. Check it frequently. To cook it faster, try precooking the lasagna noodles.
